Best Served Cold

In the past week, I’ve been working in adding one more archetype to the game. This time to provide an alternative to the Fearless disposition. The new one comes from the suggestion of a member of the community, who provided an initial core of ideas for the Vindictive archetype. I then fleshed out and scripted the idea to be more varied with its effects.

The first core mechanic around this archetype is “Cherish”, which allows a card tagged with it, to avoid being discarded from hand at the end of the turn. Vindictive provides various ways to keep more of your cards in hand and look for the best opportunity to use them. Its synergies come from cards which straight up become more powerful when cherised, or cards whose power depends on the amount of cards you have in hand.

The secondary mechanic is Grudge. This is a buff you add to the Dreamer, and causes Torments stressing you out to be retaliated with interpretation equal to the stacks of Grudge you have. This can immediately annihilate Torments with multiple stress intents like the Laughing Ones, but on the other hand doesn’t work quite so well against Torments inflicting DoT debuffs like the Gaslighter. It’s a generally slow-burn effect which takes a bit of time to get going, which makes it quite useful against enemies with large health pools.

With the addition of Vindictive, the game now provides 8 different card pool combinations to try out between its 7 archetypes, making the variability of each run quite diverse.

My plan now is to add the some extra difficulty levels, as many people have figured out the game quite well and they need a bit more of a challenge. And as always more content as ideas come into my head.
